Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment method that uses shockwaves to simulate healing of muscles, ligaments and tendons. Shockwave therapy can be used for a variety of conditions including rotator cuff tendonopathy, achilles tendonopathy, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, jumper’s knee, plantar fasciitis and more. Shockwave therapy works primarily through increasing blood flood and stimulating tissues to increase the healing process by creating microdamage in the treated area.

Shockwave therapy uses a specialized machine in order to generate and deliver high frequency shockwaves to the body. These shockwaves are transmitted through a gel and penetrate into the treated tissue. The process can be slightly uncomfortable depending on the tissue that is being treated, but some short-lived local redness and post-treatment skin sensitivity are the only adverse events that should be expected.
